Eligibility

Admission requires applicants to hold or be eligible to hold:

  • an Honours degree or a Bachelor degree with Honours of at least class 2a standard in an appropriate discipline; or
  • a relevant Masters degree; or
  • satisfy the Dean of Research that their previous education, relevant professional experience and published research work is of sufficient quality and relevance to prepare the applicant for a research degree

Research Training Program international (RTPi) Scholarships

Research Training Program international (RTPi) Scholarships are funded by the Australian Government and awarded to international students on the basis of academic merit and research potential.  These scholarships include a stipend (living allowance) and a fee offset for a limited time.

Scholarship Benefits

  • The total stipend is at least $28,854 per annum (2022 stipend rate) paid fortnightly over a maximum of 3 years for PhD students and over a maximum 2 years for Masters by Research students. 
  • The total fee-waiver is for a maximum of 3 years for PhD students and over a maximum 2 years for Masters by Research students. 
  • This scholarship includes Overseas Student Health Cover (Singles Cover) with UniSA’s preferred provider BUPA where the successful applicant requires a student visa.  A thesis allowance is available.

Enterprise Research Scholarship (ERS)

Enterprise Research Scholarships (ERS) are funded by the University and/ or our partners, and are awarded to international students on the basis of academic merit and research potential.  These scholarships include a stipend (living allowance) and a fee offset for a limited time.

Scholarship Benefits

  • The total stipend is at least $28,854 per annum (2022 stipend rate) paid fortnightly over a maximum of 3 years for PhD students and over a maximum 2 years for Masters by Research students. 
  • The total fee-waiver is for a maximum of 4 years for PhD students and over a maximum 2 years for Masters by Research students.

International Research Tuition Scholarship (IRTS)

International Research Tuition Scholarships (IRTS) are awarded to international students on the basis of academic merit and demonstrated research capability, and who will be supported during their degree by a full living stipend supported by external funding, e.g a recognised sponsor or external scholarship awarding body.

Scholarship Benefits

  • The IRTS total fee-waiver is for a maximum of 4 years for PhD students and over a maximum 2 years for Masters by Research students. 
  • This scholarship does not include Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) which is a condition of the student visa, and applicants are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate cover for themselves and their family where applicable.

Eligibility

In addition to meeting UniSA’s eligibility criteria, applicants must be:

  • Commencing international research degree students
  • High quality with demonstrated research capability, as assessed by UniSA
  • Be supported by a strong supervisory panel(with end-user adviser on the supervisory panel, where appropriate), and be enrolled in a research-rich environment
  • In receipt of (or been awarded) a fully externally funded stipend scholarship, or in receipt of a living stipend supported by external funding*.

Note: the living stipend needs to be in the form of an externally funded scholarship administered through the University or in agreement with an industry partner, sponsorship body or organisation.

How to Apply

International students who have received external support or a scholarship are eligible to apply for any of the initiatives listed. Some candidates may be subject to extra requirements imposed by their sponsorship or scholarship source, and may be required to work with a UniSA supervisor to build their own project.

Application Deadline

Scholarship applications must be received no later than 31st August 2022 for you to be considered.
