This is to announce the commencement 2023 Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford University for international students. Therefore, application is invited for suitably qualified international students for Rhodes Scholarship Program.

The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest international scholarship program (first given in 1902), allowing excellent young people from all around the world to study at the University of Oxford. It is a life changing chance to study at the University of Oxford with remarkable young people from all over the world.

Over a century later, the Rhodes Scholarships are the world’s oldest and maybe most renowned international scholarship program, allowing brilliant young people from all over the world to pursue full-time postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford (ranked first internationally in the Times Higher Education rankings for 2017 and 2018).

Rhodes Scholarships

One of the Scholarship’s original goals was to discover young leaders from throughout the world who, by studying together at Oxford, would develop links of mutual understanding and friendship for the advancement of humanity.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for the Rhodes Scholarships vary depending on which constituency you are applying for.

  • You must be a citizen of one of the countries listed below or you must have been resident in one or more of the countries listed below for at least five of the last ten years.
  • Upon 1 October 2022, you must be at least 18 and have not reached your 24th birthday (i.e. you must have been born after 1 October 1998 and on or before 1 October 2004) OR (for older candidates who completed their first undergraduate degree later than usual)
  • Upon 1 October 2022, you must not have reached your 27th birthday (i.e. have been born after 1 October 1995) AND you have met or will meet the academic requirements for completing your first undergraduate degree on or after 1 October 2021
  • Have you already completed, or will have completed by July 2023, an undergraduate degree (normally a Bachelor’s degree) with an academic background and grade that – at a minimum – meets or exceeds the specific entry requirements of your chosen full-time course at the University of Oxford?
  • Given the very intense international competition for places at the University of Oxford, candidates will have a greater chance of successful admission to Oxford if they have:

• A First Class Honours Degree or equivalent, or,

• A GPA of 3.70/4.0 or higher

  • You must have a sufficiently high standard of English to meet the English language proficiency requirements (at the Higher Level listed) of the University of Oxford.

Selection Criteria

The criteria which determined the first Rhodes Scholars are:

  • literary and scholastic attainments (academic excellence)
  • energy to use one’s talents to the full (as demonstrated by mastery in areas such as sports, music, debate, dance, theatre, and artistic pursuits, particularly where teamwork is involved)
  • truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship
  • moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one’s fellow beings.

Scholarship Benefits

  • The Rhodes Scholarship covers Oxford University course fees, as well as providing an annual stipend. For the 2021/22 academic year, the stipend is £17,310 per annum (£1,442.50 per month) from which Scholars pay all living expenses, including accommodation.
  • the Rhodes Trust will cover the fee required to apply to study at the University of Oxford.
  • The Trust will cover the fee for a student visa and the associated International Health Surcharge (IHS), which enables international students to access the UK’s National Health Service.
  • The Rhodes Trust will cover two economy class flights – to and from the UK – for the beginning and end of studies in Oxford.
  • On arrival in Oxford, Scholars receive a settling in allowance and for those Scholars who transition to a second course of study in Oxford, they will again receive assistance to cover the fee for visa renewal and further application for IHS.

Documents Required

You must submit a completed application form online with copies of the documents and information detailed below. All documents must be submitted in English

  • At least two of the following documents to confirm that you meet the citizenship criterion the residency criterion, and the age criterion:

i. A certified copy of your birth certificate (or an affidavit of birth)
ii. A National Identity Card.
iii. A valid passport (with translation, if necessary)
iv. A voter’s card
v. An affidavit notarized by a competent authority confirming that you are a bonafide citizen of your country

  • An official transcript from the college or university at which you are studying, or have studied, showing grades achieved (to date).
  • Evidence of residency within the region for at least five of the last ten years, for example official school records.
  • If English is not your first language you should upload evidence of English Language Proficiency
  • A full curriculum vitae not exceeding 2 pages
  • A head-and-shoulders colour photograph (jpg format)
  • A personal statement of no more than 750 words
  • An academic statement of study of no more than 350 words
  • You will need to provide a list of four (minimum) to six (maximum) people (your referees) who are willing to submit references on your behalf

  • There is no application fee for submission of the Rhodes Scholarship application form.
