OpenWHO is the World Health Organization’s (WHO) new interactive web-based platform that provides online training to people who are prepared to work in epidemics, pandemics, and health emergencies, or who are already doing so.

The OpenWHO platform brings WHO and partner knowledge closer to frontline responders and decision-makers, and it provides information in user-friendly formats. The WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme’s Learning and Capacity Development unit manages the platform.

Users participate in a global, social learning network based on interactive, online courses and materials that span a wide range of topics. OpenWHO also acts as a platform for rapid sharing of public health expertise, as well as in-depth debate and input on major problems.

Note: Participants who receive an 80 percent or above on the cumulative course exam for both Modules 1 and 2 will receive a Record of Achievement. Module 3 has no certification requirements.

Course Contents:

Module 1: This program’s mission and objective (including COVID-19 knowledge):
This module includes an explanation of the learning package’s objective and context, as well as leadership terms and COVID-19 knowledge.

Module 2: Preparedness and reaction at the national level:
This module gives you an overview of the Operational Planning Guidelines for Supporting Country Preparedness and Response, as well as links to relevant information and documents.

Module 3: Public Health Response Pillars:
This lesson takes a technical look at each of the eight pillars of the public health response as outlined in the Operational Planning Guidelines for Country Preparedness and Response.

Learning Objectives

  • Use the Operational Planning Guidelines to educate yourself and others on the need of operationalizing the SPRP for the COVID-19 outbreak.
  • Be able to describe the eight primary pillars of public health readiness and response, as well as the UN country teams’ early steps.
  • To be able to use the COVID-19 Partners Platform for country readiness and response plans to access the full set of actions, performance indicators, and resources required to conduct the preparedness level assessment.
