Each year, Rotary selects up to 130 international peace and development leaders to receive fully funded academic fellowships to undertake a Professional Development Certification Course or a Masters Degree Program in peace and conflict resolution and prevention at one of the participating peace centers around the world (USA, Japan, UK, Australia, Sweden, Thailand, Uganda)

About
The Rotary Peace Fellowship is for people who have worked in the fields of peace and development. Our fellows are dedicated to community and international service, as well as peacemaking. The Rotary Foundation provides up to 50 master’s degree fellowships and 80 certificate fellowships at top institutions each year.

The Rotary Peace Centers have trained over 1,500 fellows who now operate in over 115 countries since the program began in 2002. Many are leaders in governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), educational and scientific institutions, peacekeeping and law enforcement agencies, and international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Bank.
Eligibility
The Rotary Peace Fellowship is designed for professionals with work experience in international relations or peace and conflict prevention and resolution. Applicants must also meet the following requirements:
- Have three years of related work experience for the master’s program
- Have five years of related work experience for the certificate program and be able to explain how their plan to promote peace aligns with Rotary’s mission (Candidates for Makerere University must either be from Africa, have worked in Africa, or work with African communities or initiatives outside the continent.)
- Be proficient in English
- Have a bachelor’s degree
- Demonstrate leadership skills
- Have a strong commitment to cross-cultural understanding and peace worked in Africa, or work with African communities or initiatives outside the continent.

Scholarship Benefits
The fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field-study expenses.

Fields Available for study and Duration
Professional Development Certificate Program
During the one-year blended learning program, experienced peace and development professionals with diverse backgrounds gain practical skills to promote peace within their communities and across the globe. Fellows complete field studies, and they also design and carry out a social change initiative. This program is intended for working professionals. Fellows earn a post-graduate diploma upon completion of the program.
Master’s Degree Program in fields related to peace and conflict resolution and prevention
Accepted candidates study peace and development issues with research-informed teaching and a diverse student body. The programs last 15 to 24 months and include a two- to three-month field study, which participants design themselves.

- International Christian University, Japan: Master’s Degree in Peace Studies

- University of Queensland, Australia: Master of Peace and Conflict Studies (MPACS)
- Uppsala University, Sweden: Peace and Conflict Studies (MS.Sc.)
- Chulalongkorn University, Thailand (certificate program): Professional Development Certificate in Peace and Development Studies (PgCert)
- Makerere University, Uganda (certificate program)
Note: With the exception of applicants from Thailand who may attend the center at Chulalongkorn University and candidates from Uganda who may attend the center at Makerere University, fellowship winners may not study at a Rotary Peace Center in their native country.
