The Asian Development Bank (ADB) summer internship program is now open for international students across the globe.

It is a fully funded international internship in which applicants from the ADB member countries are eligible to apply for. There are currently about 68 members of ADB.

The Asian Development Bank internship is 8 weeks. The Internship will begin in June 2021 and it is only available to graduate students. This means that if you are pursuing a Masters or PhD then you are eligible. It does not apply to undergraduate students.

The location of the internship will depend on the country /region you are applying for. As stated above, ADB has 68 member countries. When you apply for an ADB internship, you need to register for a master’s or doctoral program.

The Internship program is a projector-oriented learning opportunity for graduate students to gain experience through research tasks based on the current business needs of ADB.

ADB announces internships assignments twice a year and welcomes applications from individuals who are motivated, open minded, and self-directed. The program provides the following opportunities:

  • Works for major international development organizations.
  • Works with experienced professionals from more than 50 different countries.
  • Deeper understanding of development financing and the impact of work done by ADB.
  • Contribution to ADB’s business through research outputs.

Benefits of ADB Internship.

  • ADB Internship provides an allowance for up to 56 calendar days to all interns based on their location of the internship
  • If you need to travel by air between the internship location and the authorized departure place (i.e the location of the school), ADB will provide a limited amount to cover part of the air ticket travel expenses.

Criteria for Application.

Qualified applicants are expected to:

  • Be enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program at a school in one of the ADB’s member states, both before and after the internship.
  • Participate in academic research in fields directly related to the work of ADB.
  • Be a national of one of the ADB members.
  • Have a job related professional experience.
  • Be fluent in English.

Selection Process.

  • ADB publishes internship program on its website and candidates chooses one which they are interested in.
  • Candidates apply through ACES, prepares resume and answers the essay questions.
  • Candidates uploads all documents (resume and thesis) to ACES to complete the application.
  • Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
  • To avoid submission errors, applicants are advised not to wait until the las day of the application period to submit their internship application.
  • ADB evaluates applications based on the following criteria:

  • Qualification requirements.
  • Relevance to academic research and work experience
  • Level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.
  • The balance of institutional representation, gender and nationality throughout the internship selection process.
